Counselling – What Does it Entail?

Many people have a deep need to help others. They do this for a variety of reasons. It may be that they are naturally caring, have a desire to serve or feel satisfaction out of their work. In addition, there are those who want to become counsellors because they believe that it will add a certain level of meaning and richness to their lives.

During counselling, the client is encouraged to talk about their feelings and emotions with a therapist who will listen without judgement and provide support. Counselling/therapy can help with a wide range of problems, including stress, anxiety and depression, loss of self-confidence and family or relationship issues.

Counselling begins with the counsellor establishing rapport with their client. This is often done by introducing themselves clearly and with warmth. They then ask the client to take a seat and discuss their reason for seeking counseling. They will use open questions to allow the client to answer fully and freely, without putting them under any pressure. They will also pay attention to non-verbal communication and other cues that the client is displaying.

The counsellor will then spend some time analyzing the problem and understanding its nature. They will dig deep into the root cause of the issue, exploring any important triggers, stressors and environmental factors. After assessing the client’s situation, they will then set goals. These goals will be both long-term and short-term. They will be discussed and agreed upon between the counsellor and client, and they will then actively work towards accomplishing those goals. https://stony-stratford.trusted-coaching.co.uk/managing-stress/
